Recipes with an Oriental Flair

Glenn’s Gado Gado Thai Spaghetti
Saute together: 2 Tbsp oil
                       1 tsp sesame seeds 
                       ½ onion, chopped
                       ½ green pepper, chopped
                       1 can mushrooms
                               (or several fresh,sliced mushrooms)
Then add:        ½ tsp garlic, ½ tsp oregano
Add to skillet:  2 Tbsp vinegar
                       ½ Tbsp Tabasco sauce
                       3 Tbsp soy sauce
Finally add:      ¼ cup creamy peanut butter(be careful not to burn)
Serve with spaghetti or noodles(stir together before serving). You can add cooked shredded chicken to this or other veggies if you like. Will serve 4-6.

Sweet and Sour
2 Tbsp oil or margarine
1 onion, sliced 
1 green pepper, sliced
1 carrot, sliced thin
1 Tbsp bouillon in 1 2 cup hot water
3 Tbsp each of cornstarch, brown sugar, vinegar, and soy sauce
1 can pineapple pieces (12 to 15 oz)
2 cups cooked meat, if desired
Saute vegetables in oil.  Add bouillon, brown sugar, vinegar, and soy sauce.  Mix cornstarch with pineapple juice and add to sauce.  Add pineapple and meat, and cook until thickened.  Serve over rice.  Serves 6-8.

Mom’s Favorite Stir-fry
1 lb meat of your choice (chicken, turkey, beef, pork)
½ onion, chopped
1 pkg frozen vegetables 
          (16 oz; Oriental blend, California blend, carrots & broccoli)
2 Tbsp soy sauce
2 Tbsp cornstarch
1 cup water
Fry the meat in a little oil with the onion (if desired add a little garlic and/or ginger).  When meat is cooker thoroughly, add frozen vegetables a stir-fry for a couple minutes.  Add soy sauce.  Mix together water and cornstarch and pour over meat and vegetables.  Bring to a boil for a couple of minutes until sauce is thick and clear.  Serve over rice. Serves 6.

Easier Orange Chicken
Stir-fry together:
1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite size pieces
½ onion, cut into chunks
½ bell pepper, cut into chunks
1 tsp minced ginger
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 carrot sliced
Crushed red pepper to taste
Sauce (Mix together and pour over chicken. Cook until thickened):
1 ½ Tbsp soy sauce        1/3 cup water           3 Tbsp sugar
3 Tbsp vinegar                1 Tbsp cornstarch    Zest of one orange
1 Tbsp frozen orange juice concentrate
Serve over rice. Garnish with sesame seeds.
